Beginning January 1, 2022, Vallejo residents will be required to recycle more of their organic waste. Currently, residential customers subscribe to green waste service, however, under SB 1383, this service will be expanded to include additional food items not currently accepted in the residential green waste program.
Additionally, as January 1, 2022 approaches, residents will notice new labels on their garbage, recycling and organics carts. These labels will show common acceptable and unacceptable materials for each waste stream to encourage proper sorting of materials, thereby reducing recycling contamination.
The City of Vallejo and Recology Vallejo are working together to develop an SB 1383 program(s) that will meet the numerous requirements of the law. Residents will be notified throughout the coming months as details become available. Please click learn more to visit Recology Vallejo’s SB1383 information page for the most up to date information.

Beginning January 1, 2022, commercial businesses and multifamily dwellings with five or more units will be required to recycle their organic waste such as food scraps, food-soiled paper products, and yard waste.
Businesses will also notice new labels on their garbage, recycling and organics carts and bins. These labels show commonly accepted and prohibited materials for each waste stream to assist with proper sorting of waste, thereby reducing recycling contamination.
Facilities without indoor recycling and compost bins must provide color-coded and labeled indoor recycling and compost bins next to all garbage bins, except for inside restrooms. This includes both back-of-house kitchen and front-of-house public areas. Restaurants and other dine-in facilities that store their waste bins inside cabinets do not have to be a specific color; however, proper signage or labeling is required.
